Eminent Domain Law & Pipeline Law Reform
The Texas legislature is in the process of changing eminent domain law to better protect landowners involved in the condemnation process. The bills now under consideration would set requirements for what constitutes a bonafide offer to the landowner, could require certain provisions in easement agreements that would better protect landowners and also provide requirements for public meetings with landowners.
The Legislature is also considering a bill that would classify privately-owned pipelines as critical infrastructure and would criminalize the intentional damage or destruction of those pipelines.
